FUJINON XF16mm F1.4 R WR
Not only were three Xphotographers present (aside from myself, Donato Chirulli and Max De Martino participated as well) also present was a complete range of cameras and lenses that were at the full disposal of the participants.
Personally, for some time, I had a score to settle with the FUJINON XF 16mm F1.4 R WR, as it had been months that I had promised myself to seriously test it on the field. But due to numerous commitments on one hand and that angle of view equal to 24mm has always been for me rather tough to interpret on the other, I kept on postponing testing this lens.
Now, given the opportunity and seeing the various events that were staged in the main square of Novafeltria, I had no more excuses.
In reality this is not a downright lens test, I'll let the pictures speak on my behalf.
Talking about Fujinon lenses risks to undermine my credibility. Its difficult to find defects and having a performance that is always beyond expectations cant exempt me from using terms such as... fantastic, incredible, impeccable so on and so forth.
Therefore I'll limit myself to a short summary. Fujinon 16mm, 23mm, 56mm and 90mm are a “group” of fixed lenses that can be associated among themselves for their construction, performance, image quality and ancillary high end characteristics (bokeh, color rendering, contrast quality, gradual tone shading....). Another characteristic, as highlighted on other occasions, is that during its use it seems closer to its corresponding focal length rather than to its nominal one. For example, the Fujinon 23mm delivers the impression of actually using a 35mm rather than a true wide angle lens. Just to reiterate it once again, regardless of the angle of view determined by the size of the sensor, the focal length is, and remains, the nominal one.
In any case, even for the Fujinon 16mm what has been said for the other lenes remains valid. Contrary to what occurs with lenes of other brands, not only does Fujinon have little or no distortion, in the case of ultra wide angles the perspective distortion is reduced to minimal terms.
See to believe... and to believe even more one must consider that these shots have been taken in raw and Lightroom does not have in its “inventory” Fujifilm lenes to automatically correct distortion. Obviously we are talking about a 16mm... but to my memory I find it difficult to recall even a 24mm that in full format behaves, under this aspect, in such an impeccable way.
That’s all Folks… welcome to :
